Decades of bankruptcy experience
About Black Robe
Hon. Robert A. Gordon served as a bankruptcy judge in Maryland for fourteen years.
There is little he did not see in terms of bankruptcy law and practice during that time. His record as a decision-maker and jurist was impeccable. His thousands of decisions were rarely appealed and of the thirty or so that were, only four were reversed by higher courts.
But it is his compassion for the parties who appeared before him that stood out.
One party called him, “an exceptional jurist” who “renewed her faith” in the judiciary. Another thanked him for his “service” to the people and another expressed gratitude for treating her with dignity, humanity and making a difference in her life.
Before his appointment to the court, Judge Gordon practiced bankruptcy and related law for twenty-four years. Since leaving the bench, he has been teaching at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law.
There are few, if any, insolvency issues that Judge Gordon has not tangled with in private practice or while on the bench. He can advise clients to help resolve their debtor-creditor challenges, or, act as an independent arbitrator or mediator should the parties choose one of those options.
